Jesus Christ the Son of GOD had done fasting for 40 days and ate nothing ( Luke4:2 ). Why did he fast for 40 days? We know that the p reparation of his ministry, to overcome temptations and a great work ahead in front of Him that he had to bear i.e. crucification. And He suffered His life long as He lived in the flesh on the Earth. ( Hebrews 4:7-10 )
How do we observe Lents-days?
Are we doing the same like Jesus how he fasted? He ate nothing for 40 days. We take figure of 40 and omit how He had done fasting. How can we satisfy ourselves if we take a piece of word of God and observe it? So word is word and word for all but not a part is for all.
One important thing everybody should remember that Jesus was fasted before starting His ministry not before His death day i.e. Crucifixion. Who fixed this 40 days lent system before the called Good Friday . There is no evidence from the Scriptures for the lent days and Good Friday. Only we have to enjoy every minute i.e.allways in life ( Philippi 4:4, Proverb 15:15) for plan of the Lord's Day by our Heavenly Father for Salvation. If we selected for a military or Police post first we have to undergo the training (it is very hard). This much of common sense is not there for the man who introduced the lent day's system before the crucified day.
We do a half a day fasting. Remaining half day is compensated by strength food like fruits, Juices, milk, chapatti, Rice and etc. Technically speaking, liquids like juice and milk go and mix in the blood directly and give instant energy. We are taking strength meal comparatively normal days especially in Lent days. We are forgetting the commandment of the Son of Man about fasting. ( Matt 6:16 – 18, Mark 2:18 - 22)
God's willing fasting is written in the Isaiah chapter 58.Preaching Gospel to the wicked itself is the real fasting in the sight of the GOD.
Jesus had done fasting for preparation of his ministry and crucification. What about us. Why do we fast in the Lent days and what do we do? We remember his death and cry for him. Some Congregations also re-enact the Jesus' role in a ritual called the Stations of the Cross. Hence, Good Friday ( crucifixion day ) is observed as a day of sorrow, mourning and fasting.
I would like to ask you a question here. Is Christ's death good for the world or not? Definitely we should say it's good because salvation has come through his death for the world ( Eccle 7:1 ). If it's good, then why should we weep at Him?
I would like to bring it up a good point here. We studied many times the following reference. Generally we can find the below reference in the wedding invitation card. I.e. Psalm 118:22 - 24, “…This was the Lord's doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it”.
Please pay the attention on the above reference. Which is the day the Lord has made? On that day we will rejoice and be glad in it. Is it our wedding day? I think you heard many interpretations on wedding by using the above reference. If we search for the Lord's Day in the bible we will come to know the truth, in which we should rejoice.
Here the context is not related to the wedding of the human beings. If we take a look again the same chapter at psalm 118: 22-24 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord's doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
It's a prophecy and related to Jesus Christ. When did it happen?
Matthew 21: 42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?
If we search the Lord's Day in OT (Old Testament), we can find many references regarding the Lord's Day. Finally it points to the day of so called Good Friday. That's what the Lord's wanted us in which we should rejoice and be glad in it because through his death, salvation has come to the world. Acts 4:11, this is the ‘stone (Jesus) which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.' Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”(Romans 9:33, I Peter 2:6 – 8)
When Jesus was carrying the cross, some women were weeping at him.
Luke 23:28 but Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
Jesus clearly says don't weep for me, weep first yourselves and next for your children. He knows very well that He had to go for death as it is written, he has to die for the world and would rise on 3 rd day. . Jesus told cry or weep for your self If we won't cry out for ourselves to know the truth by using the Bible mediation. We will be in the eternal cry? Has any one listen his words on the day. We don't care about even Jesus words. We weep at him on the day called of Good Friday ( It's not a bad Friday ). I had seen some countries carrying with wooden crosses on the roads. Does Jesus death good for the world or not?.
History of Good Friday:
Josephine the famous historian expressed one good question. Why does it come always on Friday and who decides this date. For example, we are celebrating B'days and anniversary days. The date cannot be changed, but the day varies year by year. But here the calculation of Good Friday is exactly opposite. The day Friday doesn't change, but the date varies. Actually when was Jesus died? According to the Scriptures, Jesus was crucified on the first month of the first year at the 14 th day according to Jewish calendar (Ex 12:1-10). But here If Jesus Christ was crucified on that particular date. It shouldn't come next time Friday. As per Jewish calendar also the day will change for next year. The Jewish calendar has one extra month after some years (Adhika masam in Telugu). As per their calendar also it should vary the day. But, how are the calculations going on here?
Why doesn't GOOD FRIDAY fall on a fixed date like Christmas every year? Because here our Bible pundits had come one standard calculation to bring up that Friday should fall on every year. But it was not written in the Bible as Friday only Christ was crucified.
Here is the formula:
Good Friday is always the Friday immediately before Easter. The date for Easter determines the date for Good Friday. Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon, after the Vernal Equinox . This year (2010) it seems to come early because March 21th is the Vernal Equinox and the full moon comes immediately after that. Easter is calculated to coincide with Passover, because that is when the Crucifixion and Resurrection took place. Remember that the Lord came into Jerusalem at that time of Passover (13 th day, one day before crucifixion), Good Friday which is calculated on the 14th Day of the Jewish month of Nisan or Abeeb. Jewish months were lunar, and had the same number of (30) days. That is why Good Friday and Easter change date each year. Before Easter Sunday as Palm Sunday. Some waste and false Jewish trained people are calculating the Date of Birth of Christ which is of no use ( Eccle 7:1 ).We have to silent where Bible is silent. We have to speak where the Bible speaks and command us to speak and work. Should not do any over action.
Of course, acc' to the Bible also this calculations is not correct.
Is it necessity to celebrate the Good Friday?
Jesus was died in the 1 st century A.D. The days are calculated like 1 st day, 2 nd day, 3 rd day up to 30 th day. The names of the week as Sunday day (Sun), Monday (moon) and so now are introduced at the time of 11 th century. God had given many commands. Did you see any where in the Bible that we should celebrate Good Friday, Easter and follow the 40 lent days before them especially in NT (New Testament)?
In OT (Old Testament), God had spoken regarding many festival celebrations. There is a real spiritual meaning behind each festival and should know every one and following it. Ex. Passover and all (LEVI 23rd chapter). But they kept celebrating without knowing the meaning behind it. Finally God had vexed on them and said - Hosea 2:11, I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, Her New Moons, Her Sabbaths— All her appointed feasts.
God doesn't want to continue the festivals and feast. God wanted to quit all the festivals, boco'z they were (Israelites) habituated to eat, drink and dance in the name of festivals. This is His mind. Apostle Paul says Gal 4: 8- 11 “But then, indeed, when you did not know God, you served those which by nature are not gods. But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage? You observe days and months and seasons and years . I am afraid for you, lest I have labored for you in vain.” For example, if we see for the Passover which turned as Lord's Supper or Lord's Table some one follows yearly once, monthly once, and weekly once but not under standing the mind of GOD ( I Cor 11:23 – 31 ).This is also spoiled by them on those days only ( I Cor 11:20 – 22 ). The festival of Unleavened Bread also removed by the God ( I cor5:6 – 8).
The Gentiles are observing the days and months and seasons and years, if we do the same thing as Christians, is there any difference between us? Again think about Good Friday, which is anniversary of Jesus' death on the cross. Now Jesus is alive or dead? He had been raised up 2000 years ago. Still He is alive. Why are we (killing) crossing Him again on every year in the name of Good Friday. For example, if any one dies, and rose again, does any one celebrates anniversary days on every year? No, Because He is alive now, we shouldn't do remembrance days. All ready we are remembering the Christ while breaking the bread and wine on every Sunday or monthly and yearly once. This is also out dated and waste as per the preaching of the Christ crucified Preaching the Gospel is only remembrance of Christ (I Cor 11:23 – 26) and not eating the bread, drinking the wine and going home. Everyday by reading the Word, Praying and doing the good works according to the Bible only remembering the death of our Lord . Celebrating the death day every year in bad mood like gentiles is a sin. We have to remember His death only not the Death day.
Col 2:16,17- So let no one judge you in food or in drink or regarding a festival or a new moon or Sabbaths. Which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of CHRIST.
These festivals which we are celebrating in large scale in the light of fear of God and faith are man made . The people are worshiping Him according to man made commandments, but not God. Even now the God made festivals in O.T.(Levi 23 chapter) also out dated had removed as per the Hosea's prophecy , commandments are modified with the change of High Priest ( Hebrews 7:11 – 28 ). One more important thing is that as per the Word of God there should not be a single Israelite on the earth now. As per O.T. or N.T. Always God's people or Gentiles i.e. Christians or followers (Believers) of the Son of God and Gentiles. God changed the name of Israelites to New name as per Isaiah prophesy ( Is 56:5, 65:13 – 25 , Rev 2:17 ). According to this scriptures nobody should say I am an Israelite or Jew ( Roma 10:1 – 12, Gal 2:11 – 21, 3:23 – 29, Col 3:1 - 11 ).
Mark 7: 6-13 He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men—the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.” He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition. Making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.
As a Christian, we have to carry our own cross (Not Jesus cross) in 365 days( not only 40 days in lent or Sundays) and we have to suffer a lot like Christ and for Christ to acquire the heaven.( I Peter 4:1-19,5:1-11 )
Luke 9:23-25 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily , and follow Me. For however desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? If any one of us take up His(Jesus) Cross on the called Good Friday or everyday the crucification of the Christ is in vain and it becomes sin ( I John 3:4 )
I'm not criticizing any body but awakening you all ( II Peter 1:12 – 21 ). Without comparing the Word of God with what we are hearing or doing (Mark 4:21 – 25), how can we know the truth? Please feel free to ask if you have any questions or concerns. If you find any differences, you always welcome to rectify me with the word of God which is precious than anything in the world. Ultimately we should know the Truth to enter His kingdom of heaven. Please come up with your feed back.
